Don’t Be Scared of Exercise
- Posted on: Oct 15 2018
It is Halloween here in Gilbert, so there are many things to be afraid of, but exercise shouldn’t be one of them. At Infinity, a big part of our practice mission is helping patients lose weight and keep the weight off. Our diet plans vary, some incorporating prescription weight loss medicines such as Phentermine, others using methionine inositol choline injections, others simply involving nutritional plans and coaching.
Regardless of the plan, however, it will surely incorporate some form of exercise. Because the key to continued healthy weight is a combination of a good diet and exercise. Some patients are very diligent about incorporating exercise as part of their new lifestyle when they are focused on losing the weight. But once their goals are achieved, they go back to their former sedentary ways.
At Infinity Health & Wellness, we encourage our patients to make exercise a part of life. Here are some of the benefits of eating better and exercising.
Decreased risk of heart disease
Studies have show that regular exercise coupled with a healthy diet filled with fruits, nuts, and grains leads to fewer heart problems. Also, regular moderate-intensity exercise helps lower blood pressure and decreases the heart rate.
When you’re hungry your body is signaling it needs nutrients. But if you answer that call with high-fat foods with low nutritional values, your body isn’t satisfied. It responds by jumping blood sugar levels, which will then crash. Foods that are highly processed and have high levels of sugar and salt can make you irritable. Eating naturally occurring foods, such as whole fruits, vegetables, nuts, and proteins keep you going longer and even out your moods. Exercise on top of a good diet releases endorphins, which elevate your mood.
Improved energy levels
Good food provides a steady stream of energy for your body. A handful of raw almonds as a snack will fuel you far better than that bag of potato chips and that soda. Plus, the chips and soda will boost your blood sugar levels, which will then crash and leave you lethargic. Exercise promotes an increased flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body and helps with efficient heart function.
The better you eat and the more regularly you exercise, the better you’ll sleep at night. And as we all get older, each of us knows how hard regular sleep can be to come by.
